Dr Heather Holmes-Ross
Mayor of the City of Mitcham
Hello and thank you for visiting my website. I'm Heather, current Mayor of the wonderful City of Mitcham.
Prior to becoming Mayor I worked alongside my chef husband in our award winning Artisan Cafe in Blackwood. I founded the Totally Locally Blackwood shop local and social inclusion campaign movement, and am a former Flinders Uni research scientist. My experience in business, science, problem solving, education, communication, and community engagement, have given me a unique set of skills to lead the City of Mitcham. I am also a parent, step parent, grandparent, and long term Mitcham Hills resident, born in Kingswood and brought home as a baby to my parents’ home in Belair.
Mitcham is a fabulous place live. We are incredibly lucky to have so many leafy green spaces, such rich history, and an engaged and welcoming community. The reason I stood for Mayor in 2018 was my belief that the job of the Council is far greater than the provision of statutory services. My vision for the City of Mitcham is of a happy, healthy, sustainable and connected community. Over the past eight years I have worked along side the chamber, our CEO, and staff to deliver significant financial efficiencies, a range of improved and new services and several exciting new developments in line with this vision.
I have championed an evidenced based approach, questioned business as usual, and encouraged thinking outside the square. I am immensely proud of Council’s direction, culture and achievements. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and am humbled by the faith my community has placed in me in leading and representing the City of Mitcham.
I am keen to continue delivering for our community and am seeking re-election as Mayor in March/April 2027. I hope that this website allows residents and business owners to understand my motivation, vision and commitment.
Whatever your thoughts, I encourage you to vote in the upcoming council election. It is so important for our democracy that as many people as possible have their say. This way we can ensure we are making decisions which reflect the needs and wishes of our whole community, not just a vocal minority. I thank you in anticipation.
Thanks again for visiting my site. I am always happy to discuss ideas and welcome your questions and comments.
Cheers
Heather
